  3. Hi all, thanks for accepting me into the family! I am a 44 year old father of 2, but still feel and act 16 LOL. I live in a town called Celbridge which is just outside Dublin in Ireland. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to making some new friends from around the world. Bob
  4. Attention DHO! We have a new dad in our midst! Please welcome IrishBob to our fraternity of dads! He joined on 08/19/2019! IrishBob, on behalf of DHO and all the dads here, welcome to our little online man cave. If you want, give a quick hello and maybe tell us about yourself; What brings you here, how many kiddos, and what games do you like to play? I sent you a private message with some more details about Dad's Hideout, but if you have any questions at all, just let me ( @DHO Ambassador ) know and I will be happy to help. You can also reach out to the admins ( @thedakar or @xJediDadx ) or any of the moderators.
  5. Wow... I never thought about that until now.... Thanks @Airbornebob Very True! 🤯
  6. So, you think that the universe is trying to tell you something?? You spent most of your life in the Navy, most of that time gaming, you enjoy the community of fellow gamers AND military, you moved to TEXAS of all places, and you essentially have no ties to anything... what a perfect candidate!! GOOD LUCK my friend!!
  7. Good luck with this Hapa! You may soon get to see what it's like on the other side.
  8. So those in the community that know me well, know that I have sent my resume into Wargaming for a position they advertised about 2 weeks ago. "Senior Community Manager World of Warships at Wargaming Austin, TX" Well I retired from the Navy last year and didn't expect to work TBH. I am a 100% disabled veteran, with the VA compensation and my retirement I don't have to work. So since the fall of 2018 I have been going to school, more to just use my benefit and get paid to be a full time student rather than pursuing a degree necessarily to progress on to a career. But when @DEWEY_96_ sent me a PM on FB with the job link and told me he thought this was a position made for me. I read it, and at first didn't know what to think. Because it DID seem like a good position for me. Community Management.... I have, since the day I joined DHO almost a decade ago, said that community is first and foremost important thing in life. Gaming is just an outlet for a community to grow and prosper. I talked to Dewey a little bit, then to @thedakar both have known me since the World of Tanks days and I figured "What the hell" Now in my limited experience, and mostly word of mouth. People with degree's and much more experience than I have typically land jobs like this. So my expectations, lets just say were low. I spent literally 30 mins on my resume, updating it, about 10 mins on my LinkedIn updating it (because nowadays they go hand and hand). And I threw them at the wall so to speak. Again, I did not expect them to stick.... A few days went by and I received an email asking for some professional and personal references. I responded in kind. Over a week went by and I figured that I didn't have a chance. Then Thursday I received an email from their recruitment lead in Chicago asking me to go online and fill in when I would be available for a phone interview. I was astounded that I got an email and did so immediately. Within 24hrs my phone had updates saying that my LinkedIn had notifications. I logged in and three different people from Wargaming had looked at my profile. One of them being an "Executive Producer" at Wargaming in St.Petersburg, Russia. Sunday night I had an update from my FB page for my content creation for gaming that two new people had viewed it. Both work for Wargaming. Then today I received an email from the recruitment lead again telling me that they have slated a time for me on Wed for my interview. And that the phone interview had been changed to a conference call interview with him in Chicago and an individual in Austin, TX. Needless to say I did NOT expect to get this far in the process... to have my resume and me looked at for a position that I have enjoyed doing for years. Grooming and growing a community. When I started doing this with World of Tanks back in the Alpha days, that was my goal. To have a community and or family. When I left WoT it was because I felt that community(not necessarily the DHO crowd) had become a bit, well, crap. Lots of toxicity that I just couldn't stand, in an area of life that should be a hobby and fun. It was becoming a job, more than fun. When World of Warships started up, this brought that thought back up to the front. The ability to have a community and family again. The community was friendly, happy, go lucky. There was little to NO toxicity at all. In the game and on the forums. The dev's actually read our posts and responded. It was amazing and reinvigorated my thought that of what a gaming community could be. Now years late, the community has unfortunately pulled in some of that toxicity I hated and I would be remiss if I would say I have not been a part of it also. But I have tried, though sometimes it seems not so, to remove that toxicity and not add to it. All I know is, if I can be a part of something, to help groom and grow a community and clean up some of the negativity and toxicity. I would love to do it! Plus, having a position where I could coordinate with warship museums and people to do meet ups, travel, meeting more people and sharing that with others!? I mean, how can someone NOT like that!? So I have gone now from, "meh, if I get it cool" to "I want this!" and I hope to get it! Could use some positive thoughts and who knows, I might be a Warrgaming Austin employee soon!? Hopefully!
  9. Yeah, +1 on it’s only fun for me if I am trying to get better. There are lots of different goals as already discussed above. Hepius and I have similar goals, but at 36K games... moving any stat now is very hard. For example, for me to get to 54% WR I would have to run at close to 56% for another 36k games... and that’s a multi-year proposition.... not to mention that I am not a 56% WR player. Well, not unless I solely spam a certain subset of tanks, but that would be both a hollow achievement and hellaboring. My solution is that I now use my main account to play Tier Xs a lot and for relaxed social play... on the latter, I still try and get better of course... and do pay attention to whether I am improving my tier X WRs/wn8s... but typically am not laser-focused on every single move and won’t make more ruthless flank-bailing, damage-farming decisions that I would if I were not platooned. Also Tier Xs are hard, so playing them a lot really smoked my stats... but am climbing back so feel like progress is being made. I’ve got about 1k games in an alt account where I focus on tanks I play well (but not just a handful that I would if I were trying to max WR/wn8) combined with an eye towards tier X meta tanks. I play that account in short bursts... and quickly stop playing it if I am off or hit a bad streak. I use the main account to get better at higher tiers and the other to, theoretically, mark where I am with more immediate statistical reflection. I probably won’t play Xs in that one until I feel like I am closer (more-or-less) to the apex of what I think I can do in a given tier X tank. Very much feel like I am still learning at that tier atm. Is it a bit silly to do all of the above? Yeah. But it is a pixel tank game, and the above is fun for me.

    There’s always that one.
  11. Guess your gunner is not too happy about going to the T50?
  12. Last week
  13. I got the T20 to 93% without trying. Once I noticed, I started running food and trying. Down now to 87%.
  14. I liked the T20. I might try for a 3 mark on it (down the road). I got to ~93% on the T-34 and M4 before giving it a break. Going for marks is definitely less of a priority than my other goals. Too many other tanks to grind before I focus all my time on getting marks on any one tank.
  15. Also, the M4 and T-34 will be a pain to three mark. I’m not sure I could get three on either of them. They are historical and popular tanks so they will be played a lot by a diverse range of players. I’d try something unpopular and mid-tier with a strong crew that will allow you to abuse game mechanics, mainly camo and view range knowledge. Pz3/4, M7, Chaffee, T21, T20, Crusader.
  16. I have more tier Xs then anyone needs and, outside of checking my session stats when I logout, I don’t look at stats much (RIP vBAddict). However, I generally can’t just play either. There are a few tanks to grind, missions to work on (been one mission away from the 260 for like a year and a half), three marks to earn, crews to train up, etc. Slightly different from your goals, but I’m almost always working on something and not just playing WoT. Like a lot of us, I should probably play at tier X more.
  17. I hear you on that and have heard much the same from the ex when she was around to split time. Some folks see it as a burden I guess while I saw it as an opportunity to help shape my kids how I see fit. When my kids were born, I realized I had the responsibility of these new lives in the world while I feel like my ex saw them as an option (of where to spend her time) and I suspect liked leveraging the title of single parent to have folks feel sorry for her. I hope that one day things will shape out for you and your kids to connect. I have a friend who had a kid he wasn't fully aware of ( he suspected though) who finally reached to him at 18 and he's brought her into his family so things can work out for the best in time irregardless of the intentions of the other parent.
  18. I have a hard time playing games "just for fun." Fun (for me) is getting better at something. Or (if I'm already good at something) maintaining my standing. To get better I like to track how I'm doing. I use a run tracker so that I can compare my runs, I keep a word count log so that I know how much I write every day, and I compulsively track my Wn8 and win rate in WoT. I set goals at the different things I do in order to keep myself motivated. So what are my WoT goals? 1) Get my overall Wn8 to 1600. (This should take about 200 "sessions" at my current rate.) 2) Get my recent Wn8 to 2000. (Challenging, but I'm getting there. Trying hard no to make stupid mistakes.) 3) Get my overall win rate to 54% (This will be a LONG grind. It goes up very slowly). 4) Get my tier 10 win rate over 50%. (My win rate slowly goes down from tiers 5 to 9 and then plummets at tier 10. I want to improve my tier 10 play). Bonus goals: marking tanks. I'd really like to three mark a tank. I'm close on the M4 and T-34, but am not actively pursuing marking them right now. I'm trying to achieve my goals without relying on "easy" fixes like constantly running my T67 and T71 and spamming gold. What am I doing to improve my play? I do enjoy watching streamers/youtubers. I've learned a lot from them. I'm also trying to consciously make better decisions in game. A big one is not going where my tank "is supposed to go" if my team isn't supporting that tactic. Do you have any WoT goals? Or is just playing the game reward in itself?

    Skoda T 27

Played 55 battles in the T27 to complete the Czech missions. Overall, my initial impressions that were shared in the opening post of this thread haven't changed; good tank that fits with the high tier tech tree tanks. Two ace tankers from this weekend. Bottom tier on Prok. http://wotreplays.eu/site/4998609#prokhorovka-gpc_4-koda_t_27 Full tier 8 on Redshire. http://wotreplays.eu/site/4998625#redshire-gpc_4-koda_t_27

Completed all the Czech Holiday missions with the T27. The style is very nice and now I can crew the T50 with a new female crew. Also, the crew books you get through the missions provide a nice starting crew. New crew before the books... New crew after the books...
  21. I'm okay with the tier 8 LHMTV. Lots of similarities to the SpIC and HWK, but the gun is better because it has 226 pen and good shell velocity. Plus, you can scout when the situation is correct. Here's a new position I found on Ghost Town - Encounter (wanted that ace.....) http://wotreplays.eu/site/4998584#ghost_town-gpc_4-lhmtv
  22. I agree with your opinion of priorities. Right now we are at a vulnerable spot and slowly moving up. I'm still lost on what to do to ensure security for myself in the long run. With my next semester of college starting on the 26th I'm trying to get all the major things done and ensure stability going into 2020 including possibly refinancing a loan (remodel) and fixing up major things on house before the winter. It feels like the world is on my shoulders even with the newish extra income.
  23. Whats funny is over the years, the ex, before she remarried, always talked about "how hard it is to be a single parent" I always used to tell her, if it's so difficult and such a burden for you, I would gladly take the children full time. And HAPPILY be a single parent. I'm coming back out there this December to Jan. I'll hit you up!
  24. Great post Hapa. I can relate to some extent with my own experiences spanning nearly a decade of trying to be the nice guy and just living the status quo, but in my fortunate situation, my kids are with me full-time and someday I'll be needing to lay the story out for them of what came and went of their mom as she's not around any more (of her own doing). Next time you're back in Oregon, let me know and we can swap some stories as I missed you on that road trip you took after retirement.
