Wet Shaving

Recommended Posts

After over a year of using the Merkur blades (they weren't bad), I ordered the Gillette Silver Blues.  They are a serious step above the Merkurs.  The blades are sharp and smooth and give a great shave with fewer passes.  I really enjoy the quality of a good wet shave and I'll keep experimenting with different products.

Cool.  I will try those next.

And Nightstorm,,,,,or Google,,,,,or whoever you are next week.  When your wife says, "shave or you won't be getting any", you shave.  That's how a horny man shaves.

Sure, I can help.

This is the razor I bought.  It is called a "double-edge" safety razor, meaning it uses razor blades with sharpness on two sides.

The one I have is good, but I have been reading good things about this one, so it might be the next one I buy.

These are the razors that go in the razor.  As you can see, they are extremely cheap.  I have been using one blade for two shaves and then tossing it.

And then here is the starter kit I bought for shaving soap.  Like I said, if nothing else, I would try this.  The thick cream you can whip up from this is not only better than shaving cream in a can, it is also better for your skin.

You can actually find a lot of this stuff in Walgreens and other local pharmacy.  I know Ruiner has teased me that there is actually a shaving store in the mall around him, so I may have to look around the Riverwalk next time I am in New Orleans.

There are also single edge razors you can get which are like the double edge, but just have the one side with an edge.  You have to seek these out though, but the razor blades for them are easy enough to find.

And then the "straight razors" are the ones that old time barbers use.  Now if you want to use those, I have just been warned to NEVER get one from Pakistan.  Apparently they are cheap, but poorly made.  I have also been told to start with safety razor shaving, and then try straight razor, but it's your prerogative.  This is the one you are referring too.  Very dangerous, but oh so cool too.  You should plan to spend about $100 on a good one though.

Did I mention it's dangerous?

Ahhh yup there it is.  The straight razor looks pretty fun but spending 100 bucks without trying it out might be a reach.  Seems like it would be dangerous but probably not that bad if you take your time.  I think the soap would be a good investment for sure though maybe I'll try that out.

It is fun, man.  That's why I listed it as a hobby, and the soap/cream and brush is a great, start up investment.  It's nice to have something that was a "chore", is now a relaxing event for me.  Sure, during the week, I just shave once and done, but that soap is fun.  And on the weekends, I take my time, and really try to get it nice and baby smooth.  I still haven't gotten it yet, but I just enjoy the time trying.  I want to try straight blade shaving though.  That takes a lot of investment too because you need the strop, but I found out that doesn't sharpen it.  That is just to buff it out basically.
