DHO2 is standing up a Strongholds battle formation, each Wednesday night at 8:00pm (EST). Required Equipment; 1. Please have at least a Tier 6 vehicle. Vehicle type not too important as we are going to have fun! 2. Teamspeak Optional

I was just curious as to why we use Ventrillo over something like TeamSpeak. From my experience, Ventrillo is just easier to setup. With the rapid expansion of WoT members, TS3 would be a much better choice for a large group. It would require a little more help for those whom aren't very computer savy to get setup but the added features are worth it imo.

I set up a mock server and with just the basics, the layout of the tree looks much better when compared to Vent.

As for features, there are quite a few. some of the cooler ones would be file sharing, private messages, personal avatars, DHO advertisements and chat. Chat can be sent globally by admins or to a particular channel by users. Even one on one chatting is there. It's perfect for sending links to various mods/sites/ help topics. In each created channel, you can have a base link in the description that would take a user right to the Wot section of our site.

I'm not sure how Vent works on the admin side as I've never had to use vent until I came here. In TS, you can have custom groups with different privileges. I setup Ts for a group one time that wanted to lock everything down with a password. I told them they didn't need to and showed them why. i set it so a first time user had restricted movement to just the lobby channel. I then set a members group that allowed them to register new users. Simply put, right click on the new user and register them. then they could move freely through any channel that wasn't passworded.

Overall, I'm not suggesting that we change the setup right now, just wanted to see what you guys had to say on the topic. If it does get considered, I'd be happy to help set it up and make some tutorials for the admins here. Maybe even consider setting up a TS server for a month and let people check it out for themselves.

I know that question has been asked in the past.the basic answer I've seen is, "this is what was used in the past, and we don't seem to have a problem with it currently, so why change?"Or something along those lines.Vent currently meets the needs of the clans, as far as I am aware. We've managed to have one civil conversation on the vent topic

Makes sense to not change something that isn't broken. I just get curious once in awhile. Carry on:cool

While I agree that team speak is a better more customizable communication program then ventrillo. however for 99% of what DHO does ventrillo works..

we don't need no stinkin badges!!

one thing I know TS has that vent does not is crosstalk channels..I don't know of that what it is called. it you can setup a "commander" that can talk into multiple channels. those individual channels. cannot talk out without the "commander" enabling it.
this would do very well for super platoons

That is interesting, would definitely be good for countdowns.to assist with this, I would suggest having all platoon leaders in the dad's hideout user chat for purpose of ready checks, so you don't have to worry about platoon leaders crosstalk messing up the caller's battle.

This is a very interesting feature. It would definitely work well with super platoons as you said. The countdown could be done by a commander and the battle could be run without crosstalk.Tactics could still be discussed if you end up on opposing teams which is something that we lack on vent.

This sounds a lot like the customizable in-game typing chat channels for a lot of other mmos, something WoT doesn't offer except for in the garage.I'm not very familiar with TS.Would that be more beneficial or distracting mid-battle?Would you need to have multiple talk buttons for each chat room?

Is it possible for the person doing the countdown to have 2 different ptt buttons?else you'd still hear his cross chatter when planning for his battle.

You can cross channel chat in ventrilo with phantoms. Can also set access with different ranks just like TS can. We just don't restrict movement for guests to certain channels.

You forgot to mention the biggie: The chat pane at the bottom for users in that channel. You post up hotlinks for map tactics. The right side info pane can be set up like a mini webpage, with links to clan topics or news items (for each channel group)

You can also send popup pm's to users in other channels.

Lastly, you can connect to multiple servers in tabs.
