Upgrading your HDD on PS3

Here is the link on the Sony website for how to change your hard drive.Seems very easy.
Something they left out though is that you will have to update it to the current 4.46 OS.To do this, download the latest software update, which right now is version 4.46:
Simply put it on a USB drive in a folder labeled "PS3", and then a subfolder to that of "UPDATE".Now you should be able to get the PS3 started up.
And here is the hard drive I ended up getting since Garand suggested it, and he had no problems.Easy to install, I just wasn't expecting that extra step with the update since the Sony site mentions nothing about it when they instruct you on how to update the system.
And when you do this, you do need to back up all your data.I'm not really concerned about all the installed games, just my game save data, so I will just use a jump drive to store that on.Then just be sure you sync your trophies up before installing the new hard drive, and that you know your PSN id and password.Haha.
Just thought I would post up this data I researched today in case others are considering it.

I upgraded my stock 80Gb to a 250 a few years back. I use the 80 for backing up family pics and such now, all you need is a cheap ($15-20) enclosure. Youncould also use it as a spare/back up for your ps3 still too.

Hmm, very interesting.I think 500 would be more than enough, but to get 1TB for only $20 more and from Samsung seems like a pretty good deal.
Don't forget, or prepare yourself, a 500GB drive is actually going to get you about 440GB of useable space after the OS data is installed. That data is only a few GB last time I checked, but due to how data is calculated, you won't get all the promised space on a 500GB or 1TB.

Promo code EMCXRTW25 takes it down from the normal $50, which is still a decent price.
