OldSkoolTarHeel: Dad in the Spotlight, take two!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure the time you do get with your son is just that much more special.  Kids sure talk a lot, but when you don't hear it everyday, it's amazing the pain you can look forward too.  Great to hear about your sister.  No doubt it was hard.  That is crazy about your brother.  No way I could do that.  Of course, I do think things like that a bit easier to undertake with no family or commitments.  If I ended up living on the street from taking a risk, no big deal.  But if my decision affected others, that would really torment me.  Look forward to the rest of the week.

That's awesome about your son Rob !! how far away does he live ?

And the rest of your family seems like fighters that never give up, like yourself !!  :2thumbs

Nice going so far man !!!

Right now I'm in New York and he's in Texas. But once his visit this summer is over, he's moving to Hawaii. His step-dad is in the Army and is being stationed there for three years.

Wow Rob, I had no idea about the crap you went through!  I am sorry to hear this buddy, but going through it makes you stronger and the father you are today!  It is good to hear that you are able to talk to us again, for awhile there I thought you had fallen off the face of the earth.

I would have chimed in yesterday, but I was pre occupied.  Just so you know I do care!!  :lmao2

Hi Rob.  Crappy stuff with your ex.  Sounds like you've moved on, good for you, and still have something good with your boy.  Hawaii is a quite a bike ride away, but that's why Skype exists.  Have him read to you over the intertube via Skype, Facetime, etc.

Sounds like you come from a family with the strength to stand up and keep rolling.  Good for your sister.  I've had friends who were strong enough to clean up and make a positive impact on people around them.  Good luck to her.

Looking forward to hearing more about you.  You could probably skip some of the details about those supposed porn convention adventures, though.  :lol

Nice write-ups, Rob! Thanks for sharing such a difficult time in your life. I cannot imagine going through something like that, but I've seen it done to a cousin of mine. Stay strong. Sounds like your doing just fine now. Your family seems very I interesting. You definitely need to visit your brother in Hawaii!  I'm looking forward to the rest of week.

Wednesday - Job and Hobbies

Alrighty then. Last time I did this I was a sales analyst for a bread manufacturer. Well, the same week that I got divorced, I lost my job with that company. It had been family-owned, by my dad, for it's entire existence. He wanted to be free of all the responsibility, 500 employees, 300 customers, 500 items, all of it. So he decided to sell a majority of the company to an investment firm. They brought in a whole new management team, CEO and CFO. Part of the deal was that all family members would be let go. This wasn't a huge deal because most of the family that worked here owned a piece of the business, and they all made out pretty well. Not so much for me. I was shown the door on August 1, 2011. I struggled with unemployment for a while because since I wasn't working and had no family in North Carolina, I decided to move back to New York. I couldn't find a job that would hire me knowing I'd be moving once my house sold.

That was all well and good. Fast forward almost a year and the bread people wanted to implement a price increase. This is no small feat, so they asked me to work on a contract-basis to help with the increase. So just about a year later I started working for the same company, but with new bosses. They thought this was going to be a 2 week project, but it ended up taking about 4 months. Well, that project came to an end, and the new bosses, CEO and CFO were highly impressed with the work I was doing, so about a month ago they hired me full-time. My new title is "Customer Profitability Specialist." My job entails telling them why when they sell a case of bread for $20, why they only actually make a profit of say, $3. It's all tedious and boring, but it pays the bills.

Hobbies - My only real hobby is video games. I play almost exclusively Call of Duty, but am open to other games. If I were to play a different game, it wouldn't be an FPS though, I like my CoD and I don't think that will ever change. One fairly recent new hobby is my motorcycle. Just before I got divorced, my ex's uncle gave me an old Suzuki Intruder 700. I look like an idiot on the thing, but it's fun as hell to ride. I'm saving for something bigger and newer, but it's slow going. Another new hobby of mine is cigars. Some of you may recall that Staxed was selling a ton of cigars on here. Well, I had him pick out a few, I smoked them and really enjoyed them. So I bought more, and more, and more.

Anyway, that's it for today.

So glad to hear you got hired on a job and back at full time.  Temp jobs are so stressful as you start to come up to the end of the contract and try to find something else for when it ends.

Good write up bud! Its great that they offered you a job that you seem to be good at and maybe enjoy? I smoke cigars sometimes too but haven't had  a real good one in a long time.

That's not what Dave has been saying.
