Recommended Posts

Clan wars season 10 runs from September 24 to December 4. DHO-X will play 3 nights a week, Tues, Thurs, and Sat at 10 et. See discord for battle announcements.

Scheduling Battles

Spoiler

1. Navigate here: https://na.wargaming.net/globalmap/

  • The CW map operates on a 1 hour timer. All actions like scheduling or cancelling landing must be done at least 1 hour prior to the battle start time.

2.Click the Search icon: image.png.84831bfb2c853ad186599487d3d6552c.png

3. Click the Clear Filter or New Search buttons to quickly filter the provinces by time zone (always your local timezone).

  • Sort by 'Attackers' & choose between the ones that have the most attackers.
  • Pick 2 maps that have a 15 minute offset. For instance a 21:00 and 21:15 start time.
  • Press the 'Apply for Landing' button. Tip you can pick several and cancel them later.

4. Close the Search window and review your choices here: image.png.6d3c48a6b02029024393ff5624c89abb.png

5. Check who you might fight. The first battle is always based on Elo rating, so you fight one of the 2 clans next to you in the list.

Tanks to Grind

Spoiler

Everyone should work towards a few types of tanks so that you have the options to play all the CW maps. Maps fall into two main categories: city maps and open maps.

City maps

Basically we only need Type 5s, yeah it is dumb.

In absence of a 15 Type 5 composition we use Maus, E 100, T110e3, Obj 268 v4

On occasion we use T-57 heavies

Open maps

A typical team composition is 5 meds, 8 fast heavies, 1 TD, 1 arty. Keep that in mind when choosing to grind a TD, they just don't get much action in CW.

Russian mediums: Obj 140, Obj 907

Bat-chat - Be warned that driving the bat chat in clan wars is a privilege. Only good scout tank players who can operate in CW independently get to play the bat chat role.

LT-100 - Very strategy specific, maybe 1 per game.

Various Fast Heavies: Wz 111-5a / 113 / IS-7 / Obj 260 / Obj 277 / Obj 268 v4 / Obj 430 U

Hull Down Heavy : Super Conq

Various TD: STRV, Obj 268 v4, other are very strat specific

Arty: Conq GC, Obj 261, others can work

Players Guide

Spoiler

In order to win in Clan War we have to have good team coordination and communication.

How to Push

  1. When a caller says "go", "push", "now", "hurry" go and do not let go of your 'W' key.
  2. Drive around and past the tanks you are pushing at as to turn their turrets.
  3. Do not face hug (Ramming a enemy head on) during a push, always drive around. You must allow your teammates behind you to get clean shots at the enemy
  4. Be aware if you are the first tank in the line, make sure that your team mates are right on your tail as you go around the corner. The first tank will get killed usually, but the rest of the team must be close behind as to take advantage of the enemy reload times.

How to Scout

  1. If you don't already know how to scout tell the caller before the game starts and swap to a different tank.
  2. If you are not asked to scout then don't scout / poke hills. The caller doesn't usually need the intel, you are simply exposed to arty fire and will bleed hp.
  3. Be ready to run as soon as you see anything pushing your way. In CW when you see one tank coming you'll spot 5 more in the next 5 secs. Don't wait, bail immediately.

How to Focus Fire

Always fire at the tank your caller instructs. If you have to hold your shot for 3 extra seconds to hit the called tank, that is ok! Hold your shot, get in position, and shoot the low HP tank.

In absence of a caller telling you want to do then do the following:

  1. Fire at the tank with the lowest HP
  2. Fire at the auto loader (bat chat over obj 140)
  3. Fire at tanks you are most likely to pen (WZ 111-5a over Type 5)

How to Call Targets

  1. Say the NAME and remaining HP of the tank
  2. During a push or brawl, call targets from the "outside in". If you are bearing left around a corner, the enemy farthest to your right is the "outside" tank.
  3. Just before the tank being focused dies, tell the team who you will swap to next.

How to address the caller in battle

Players have unique and better vantage points than the caller, feed back to the caller is important. For instance saying, I'm spotting this area and see nothing is useful.

Understand the caller may not recognize your voice or know what tank you are in or where you are at on the map. Say things like.

  1. "Can the E100s push" vs "Can I push"
  2. Press your help key instead of saying "I'm spotted"
  3. "Strv is in f2" and ping the map vs "I'm hit"

Ask the caller for permission to do "drastic" moves. If the caller doesn't respond ask a 2nd time. If still no response take no action.

How to Improve

  1. Play the tanks you get asked to play in CW in Pubs on a regular basis. Playing your Obj 140 for the first time in 6 months in CW isn't helping anyone.
  2. Play tier 9 & 10 in platoons with other DHO-X (not tier 6).
  3. Ask for tips on how to pen tanks you have trouble with but see a lot in CW.

Strategy Basics

Spoiler

Having a general understanding of what the strategy is trying to accomplish should help each individual contribute to the goal of winning.

Hard Camp

On the right map a hard camp is very difficult to beat. The camping tanks are positioned as to create a crossfire at the 2 entrances to the base. Typically the camping tanks are arty safe and not able to be spotted. Spotting is not important, in fact not getting spotted and not getting hit by arty is very important. The hard camp is a exercise in patience.

A 15 minute game on Mountain Pass is broken down as follows:

  • 3 mins for attacker to drive across the map
  • 2+ arty barrage the enemy cap from the moment they load their first shell till the end
  • 3 minutes at the end for the attacker to push in and clean up

Capping

Firstly 'fast cap' isn't a real strategy. Capping is done when you are sure that you can get on the cap and defend the re-setters. You might also choose to use cap as a last ditch effort when you know you will lose. The mechanics are to leave 3 on cap and have everyone else aggressively drive towards the enemy and deny them the opportunity to reset cap. Hiding a smaller tank on cap behind a larger tank can be a good idea

Overwhelm then Spread

When DHO-X plays a stronger team I typically call this style of strat. Basic concept is that we overwhelm a spot on the map and create an early overmatch. The idea is to face the better clan head on and stomp their faces in....with an extra 1-2 tanks. Typically I use 1-2 aggressive bat chats to scout and give the intel to know which way the other team is going.  For example: Holsy's Redshire and Karelia strats.

This strat is very susceptible to getting capped out. The aggressive early intel is intended to mitigate that risk.

This strat also stinks if you guess wrong and end up not fighting the other team in the desired spot. A better clan with a more balanced strategy will get control of the map. To mitigate this risk you turn around and deploy more balanced the moment your scouting intel gives.

Map control - Encircle

The idea here is to pin and enemy into a quarter of the map, you surround them on 3 sides and crossfire for the win. This is what people mean when they say 'map control'.

A few things to note.

  • Owning the K0 corner gives you control of the map
  • Tanks spawn near cap and on the plateau. Heavies always spawn on the plateau. Trick is to bring 7 mediums or more so you guarantee that you get 7 mediums that swap low and can race to the K0 corner.
  • The heavies can either play on top of the ridge in teh buildings, or in the trees in G5, both are valid and popular.

Ensk

Ensk is a simple map, just bring the meta super heavy and pick east or west. Always have tanks close to control your cap circle. The map often turns into a cap race. When this happens it is key to control the sight lines down the tracks and be able to reset the other team.

Season 10 is going well so far. We're in the top 75% of clans which gives a camo reward at the end of the season. So far we earned 8750 points/gold.

This season we need to focus on completing clan tasks related to landing tournaments to get points and gold. These are things like kill 150 tanks in landings, win 10 battles, etc.

I'm distributing the gold earned so far to all those who have participated in CW. 200 gold a player. Also gave a bonus to xtc, juggernaut, and wotbot for calling battles this season.
