Fixes to Preferential Matchmaking

Recommended Posts

There is also a rumor floating around that a WG spokesman spilled the beans at Tankfest, that the 'even' battle dispersion relative to your tier in 3/5/7 never made the cut in the mm change patch. Kind of makes you wonder with statements like this in the above  news release.

>>

So we’re looking into redesigning the underlying matchmaker rules to improve 3/5/7, 10/5, and 15 template distribution. This will aim to prevent cases of spending 80 percent of in-game time in 3/5/7 battles at the bottom of the list.

<<

Circon actually tested this and his results were closer to 90%

I can go back and check for sure... but I played something like 15 tier 8 games yesterday. Was top tier twice. I don’t mind that much as I play the hell out of 40t and progetto these days... but still.

What's silly is that their initial solution is to buff the vehicles a little and that is supposed to be any kind of improvement?

This has been broken since their last so called MM fix that was supposed to improve things and now they need another 6 months to fix it. I play a lot of tier 8 and the 90% at the bottom is very true.

Honestly, I’m against the buffs. They are tier 7.5 tanks because of pref MM. They should lose to tier 8s that see tier 10s. We buy these tanks with that understanding and either accept their deficiencies or make up the difference with skill/experience/prem rounds. I remember when I was mostly playing mid-tiers, IS-6s were terrifying. Now they are a joke. They already had an armor buff and now gun buffs. Poor tier 6 and 7 tanks.

I don't think they are quite buffing them to the level of a full tier VIII, though they are getting pretty close. Certainly not to the level of the Defender. The tier VI & VII's are already going up against regular and OP tier VIII's as it is. These are certainly not going to help those mid tier grinds.

WG have dug themselves into a hole it appears. They released OP premium tanks that they dare not nerf. In turn, they've effectively nerfed the older tanks through power creep. So now they need to buff these tanks. Now they're moving the bar for what a minimum tier VIII should be again. This certainly doesn't help the tier VI & VII's. So do they buff them next? Really, the best thing they could do is just nerf the few OP tier VIII, IX & X's that they've introduced over the last couple years. Instead, they keep buffing tanks, which in turn requires more tanks to be buffed.

Another thing they could do to eliminate most of the problems with balance, and I know you've mention it, is prioritize 5-10 MM. Most of the problems for most of the tanks are fixed when they aren't taking on tanks two tiers higher.

Most of these buffs look totally insignificant to me. I don't think adding 5-15 pen and 0.3s reload is going to have any difference at all when you're facing Defenders and 50-TPs, which is the real problem. It won't make any of the pref MM 8s more competitive at tier 8 (well IS-6 aim time is significantly buffed at least).

I agree with gpc, maybe I'm old-school but I also think that's the price to pay for pref MM. I'm fine with them being weaker than tech tree 8s, the problem is that their recent money-grab tier 8s are OP enough to rival tier 10s in some positions.
