New Mechanic: Smoke-firing Penalty !!

WARNING: We speculate that this new mechanic will work as follows. However, unveiling the actual effect requires further investigation.

Now, smoke-firing will not be as pleasant as it used to be. Ships fire inside (or around) smoke screen will accelerate the dissipation of smoke.

For example: Gearing's 1-click firing will reduce 0.24 (0.12×2) sec. lifetime of all smoke cloud in a radius of 630 meters.

Larger caliber guns have better effect on smoke dissipating. The biggest 460mm has the basic smoke-dissipation penalty of 5.91 seconds. That is, each 1-click shot will cause 17.73 sec of smoke dissipation and one salvo will almost blow away an entire smoke screen!

Secondaries, AA guns, and torpedoes do not cause smoke attrition.

So stay behind the smoke screen while someone stealthy spots in front of the screen or to the side or aircraft overhead spot?

 

Makes a smokescreen more like a temporary WoT bush. I.e. Back up 15 meters until the leaves turn opaque then you can fire without causing the bush to lose its camo.....

I get it to a point...  I mean, honestly, if a 16 inch gun fires from a smoke cloud... or more a set of 16 inch guns fire from a smoke cloud, you'll bet that it's pretty easy to determine where there's a ship hiding (in real life).  However, 5 inchers wouldn't do it until they continued to fire on a regular basis, hence rendering a smoke screen ineffective.   

 

However, in WoWS terms, smoke screens give the ability to "hide and seek" like TD's do in WOT...  or the option of some form of cover.  Also, just like WOT, you can counter a hiding TD by shooting down the direction of incoming fire...  same as shots coming from smoke...   use the countermeasures available (radar, hydro, spotters, CV spotting, torp the cloud, or spot muzzle blasts and return fire to try and score hits).   This is boiling down to probably a lot of yelling on the RU Server BB hard asses that hate to deal with being peppered with invsi firing CA's/DD's... They'd rather have 12 v/s 12 BB matches where they all steam into each other to secondary range and brawl.   

 

As Hapa said, it'l ruin the game.

This was just a test and someone from WG already said it won't be implemented. They still want to nerf the smoke meta so now they'll probably test something else. If something changes it will likely be several patches in the future...smoke away.

They probably realized this would be a broken mechanic.  A whole population of WoWs players would stop trying to smoke for BB's or cruisers or other DD's....
