Seems we are having an interest in modifying the TeamSpeak server and its rules.  Okay, let's have the discussion, I am game!

Please be constructive.  I will be deleting any drama posts, any "history" posts.  I want to know what are the problems and suggestions to fix those problems.  Those are the ground rules.  With that, let's chat:

What do we want: (I will add more as I get responses)

1) Ability to bring in Non-DHO members

2) Ability to make temporary rooms

3) Give CO's and XO's additional powers such as moving other members to other rooms

4) ? Name other things if you have them!

Why we want it:

What is the justification - Too many DHO on at a time?  Difficulty managing clan wars/Strongholds?  What is wrong currently?

Here are the rooms as of April 19:

Attached File  channels.PNG   10.04KB   5 downloads

What is missing/what do we need/what needs to be removed?
I see that people want private rooms - but DHO is for DHO.  Those who pay for the TS server are not particularly interested in providing individual rooms for personal use; the rooms are for DHO to work with DHO as a whole.  What is the justification for having this power?

Okay, let the discussion begin!

Private/password rooms are useful for officer discussions on the rare occasion we have personnel/clan discussions.

Ability to make a temporary room would be useful when playing games other than listed with other dads, not that its inconvenient to steal a channel. The temporary room just adds information for other clanmates as to the activity occurring in that room, and won't be looking there for platoon mates for example.

Clearly totally get DHO is for DHO, but given the new SH advance structure that allows for legionnaires... and, occasionally, despite the clans best efforts, we are missing one or two players... it would be better if the legionaries could be on coms with us rather than guessing what we are doing... IMHO, I think discretion for that should be up to XO/CO/highest officer in said stronghold battle.

Having not played tanks or been in teamspeak for many moons here is my .02

The deafult TS has VERY basic security/positions within.

Basically u have a

User - ability to talk

mod - ability to talk and permit users/kick or move users

Junior admin - create/modify channels, kick/ban create users. assign ranks, etcc.

Admin - Anything

It has always been tough to keep track of CO/XO and everyone in between.

Commanders were given mod permission and left as the responsibility for each clan to bring new users into TS and give them the permissions required, which is a very few short clicks. As those commanders changed their TS permissions were not always changed because 75% of DHO WOT players didn't go into the forums, so we couldn't keep track of what is happening in each clan and who has what position.

Add into the mix usernames on the forums, TS nickname and in game name... yeah you understand.

Regarding temporary channels and passwords and all that requires setting up a subset of security permissions outside of the default settings which takes time, and again how is this being monitored and controlled? when someone gets promoted/demoted or just plain leaves??? You end up like we are currently, just a bunch of users complaining they dont like how TS is setup, and very few people willing to step in to help and monitor.

At somepoint I created subchannels in those clan wars channels which I see have been deleted.

TS has some very powerful features. For instance, with the mercenary feature of strognholds you oculd invite a nonDHO invite a private channel, with a unique password. that channel could be set to "receive only" so that user could hear everyone else, but could not talk or maybe only talk with the commander.

But again all this needs to be setup in the subset of security and then who are giving this permission to?? How are you monitoring who comes and goes?

I am not a fan of using DHO resources for Non DHO. however there are some times when it is beneficial. Temporary private channels can assist for that, they can only be created by junior admin or above as of now. Again back to those security subsets.

Regarding other games with DHO, there are plenty of channels to use, even if its doesn't have your game name. I doubt that you will be in game long enough that every channel on the server gets full.

The private/password rooms, there used to be an admin room with a password, I see that it has been deleted, we can add that back, again it needs to be monitored or we end up right back where we are.

Final thoughts, I believe the server is currently set at 200 users, in the 2+ years I monitored it we never had more than 125users  online, usually during clan wars times.

we peaked at about 400 users per day but that was not simultaneously online.

As I stated earlier, I have not logged into TS in more than a year maybe even 2. I do not have any idea of the current population of WOT for which the TS server is used. I have been on this site since 2011, and every time it comes up we do some work to make changes and comprimise and then it all dies out and comes back again months or years later.

Update 1409: With the changes in TS and since I have redone my computer, I dont have any way to remmber my old info to login to TS. I logged in at work under a new user, but I now have a real TS account associated with my email. So when I get to my computer at home I will get into TS and log into DHO. I'll PM hapa after to reinitialize my account and I will help with any of the changes.

Thank you Neo.

I suggest having some who are "full time users" and "knows everybody" as an admin. I would recommend the usual suspects.

People come and go and maintenance does sound like a hassle. I think if we had active TS admins, then TS management would be an active process, and not a blow-up-once-a-year thing.

I don't think there's been much additional need for rooms - private or otherwise. As long as officers/admins/junior admins have the ability to create temp rooms that last a night it really isn't a problem but it seems like some people couldn't create rooms and others could (looking at you, Berg). But that seems resolved now.I'm pretty against anyone who isn't an admin creating a private room with a password. That's just asking for trouble.

The main need DHO-X has seen is that we farm our spots to legionnaires for advances/strongholds.You really need 2-way communications to play a team game as a team.We would like to have people who join us as legionairres be able to log into our TS, be pulled down to a room where comms are being used for a battle, and then we play with them for the duration of the battle. In order to facilitate this we need a new set of roles so everyone in DHO has at least one role that grants access to most rooms and 'guests' have either no role or a guest role that restricts their access. This does mean either providing these guests with our well aged server password or just removing the password from the server.

If we are adding roles and restrictions based on roles I'd argue its a good time to create tags that make it a little easier to see who is in each branch of DHO, what games they play as part of DHO, how many kids they have, etc.

My 2 cents: I agree that we need a mechanism to allow Legionnaires into our comms. Personally, I would also simply like a mechanism to platoon occasionally with non-DHO friends and with prospective recruits.

If I remember correctly, we didn't use a password in my old clan. Anyone could enter our teamspeak lobby. And anyone could enter a couple of rooms that were open to the public. Clan members had their permissions set so that only they could enter the dozen or so other rooms. An admin could also pull a non-member into any room. This setup didn't seem to cause any problems.

1) @Neo, 100 users, not 200. We haven't seen (when someone was actively monitoring it) more than about 90 people on at the same time. Currently we are at 25/100.

2) The Clan wars went from being a sub channel of the "clan war" channel to being 5 separate sub-channels in the WoT channel.

3) The passworded "Directors Cut" still exists, but that password is unknown to me, and though I am sure I could look it up, I have not as I am not a Director. (Yay being respectful of privacy and such)

Options: We can set all guests to be unable to move from the default join channel. Meaning that all members of the Commander server group would have to be active in adding rights, setting to sever group "normal" to any member that joins them.

AND/OR!!!we can make use of the temporary password, and we can make it so that they can be assigned to one channel when they use the password. I would suggest something simple like Stronghold# where # is the specific room they would be in.I strongly suggest that any SH room created be a temporary channel made by the leader of the SH battle. That will help eliminate some of the clutter later--like when SH is over.( I am on TS now, looking at grabbing a helper to test some stuff)
