Ended up buying a cheapo stainless sauce pan other day. T-Fal...I'm giving it about a month until the hand falls off :duckhunt

Just curious not to many brands in store that do not have some sort of "nonstick" coating in them. Is ceramic more stable than the Teflon crap that rips open first time ya take a metal fork to it?

Ceramic is quite durable. Can chip, but that's most likely to happen if dropped or beaten.A good set can be expensive.I don't believe there is a manufacturer that is going to recommend metal utensils.Even if our doesn't ruin the cookware it does shorten the life considerably. With good nonstick there is no reason to throw money down the drain by unnecessarily scraping the Pan with metal.

This is an interesting topic that I myself am wondering about. Personally I was raised with the Teflon coated stuff and that is what we still use in our house. I would love to get away from that and start using more "health" option. I know that ceramic coating is the "best" verse Teflon but is a coating really needed if you understand what you are doing?

Does food stick that easily to non-coated stainless steel? Also what about the heath concerns from such high temps on stainless. I will have to see if I can find the article but I thought that raising the temp cause the make up of it to change. I know when welded the gas coming off it can be deadly if there is no ventilation.

I can't imagine stainless steel having an issue in cookware, i think it melts at like 2700 degrees !! but nowadays someone will tell you it's killing us all:lol

I've had two sets of the stuff Wal-Mart sells, and I'm barely getting ready to look in to replacing the second set after about only two years of usage. I would definitely look for something a lot more high quality. You get what you pay for.

Been awhile since I've updated this one. Still have not made exact choice but will probably end up getting ceramic set. Plan on getting with my 2nd check in few weeks.

Ceramic or cast iron are definitely the way to go. I think my next set will be one of those two.
